CENTRAL CHILI KAYAK TRIP

Chile is an absolutely magnificent country to visit, but also an incredible place to paddle! The Andes form a natural barrier with Argentina, capturing the precipitation coming from the Pacific Ocean. Combined with the spring snowmelt from the mountains, this gives Chile an unrivaled reputation as one of the best kayaking destinations in the world

Kayak Trip Overview

The Andes Mountains, stretching over 4,000 kilometers, offer a true playground for mountain lovers and a giant water tower for kayakers. We journey for 9 days through the heart of the mountain range, discovering some of its rivers. Our trip begins in Santiago, the great Chilean capital, and we make our way south to reach the Araucanía region, land of the Mapuche, the indigenous people of Chile.

Duration: 9 days

Level: Class III kayakers

Location: Andes Mountains, Chile

Price: €2,100

Days 1 - 2 - 3 Los Quenes

We meet in Santiago in the morning and head out to reach the village of Los Quenes, ideally located at the confluence of the Teno and Claro rivers. This is where we will set up our first base camp: gear fitting, safety briefing, and group organization. Paddling on the Teno, Claro, and Tinguiririca rivers.

Days 4 - 5 Valle del Melado

Heading to the remote and little-known Melado Valley. There are no villages here; we will only cross paths with local arrieros herding their livestock. Paddling on various sections of the Melado River. Possibility of a horseback ride to Laguna Dial, the source of the Melado.

Days 5 - 7 BioBio

Our journey continues south to the legendary Biobío Valley. We’ll spend 2 days around Ralco, taking in the stunning big-water rapids and crystal-clear flows that make this river a world-class destination.

Days 8 - 9 Araucania

Our journey concludes in Araucanía, a land of volcanoes and araucarias—the iconic, ancient monkey puzzle trees of this region. We camp on the banks of the Cautín River, surrounded by basalt walls formed by the region’s intense volcanic activity. Here, we paddle through the emerald waters of the Cautín and the beautiful Truful Truful River, starting from Conguillío National Park.
